PennDOT says with the fast accumulations, the roads are messy tonight around the area.
They cleared major roads during the sleet and freezing rain this afternoon. But heavy, wet snow quickly undid that work.
Crews are working 12-hour shifts and will trade off at midnight.
PennDOT warns some townships are working to conserve their salt supplies, and plow drivers have seen some poorly-treated side roads. They are using a salt, anti-skid mix and say that temperatures should not get low enough to counteract it.
