A Lancaster County father is charged for allegedly causing severe injuries to his 4 month old son.  The child was taken to Hershey Medical Center on February 4th for a skull injury. During examination, physicians discovered additional healing injuries. Those injuries included two fractured ribs and a fracture of the left distal medial tibia that appeared to have occurred weeks ago.

The Elizabethtown Police Department and Lancaster County Children and Youth Services were alerted.  The results of an investigation led police to arrest the infant’s father Kory Merkey, 25, of Elizabethtown.  Merkey was charged yesterday with Aggravated Assault, Endangering Welfare of Children, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

Following arraignment today, Merkey was released after posting $25,000 cash bail. Merkey is prohibited from having contact with his child.
