A Lancaster man faces vehicular homicide and related charges after a 24-year-old woman died Saturday as a result of his reckless driving, police said.

According to police reports, the crash happened around 1:20 p.m. along the 1300 block of  East King Street in Lancaster Township and involved three vehicles. Police say Carlos R. Garcia, 33, was headed west on East King Street when he rear-ended a vehicle driven by Cat Hoang, 70, of Lancaster. The impact of the crash sent Garcia’s vehicle careening into the eastbound lane where he collided with a vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Lancaster Township woman.

The woman and her 24-year-old daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle,  were taken to Lancaster General Hospital with serious injuries. The 24-year-old unidentified woman later died.

Garcia and his 7-year-old passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Hoang was not injured in the crash.

Police arrested Garcia at the hospital and charged him with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault, accidents involving death while not properly licensed, endangering the welfare of children, reckless driving and driving while under suspension (DUI related).

Authorities believe Garcia may have been driving under the influence when the crash happened. Additional charges are pending the results of his blood alcohol testing.

A witness told police that Garcia’s vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds just before the crash.

He was taken to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 6.

Every time I see a name like Garcia in one of these news stories, I always wonder if that person is in the USA legally. To some people they consider that racist, but when will it stop if no one asks the question? Illegal aliens in this country cost all of us tons of money in social services and catering to people who come here and don't learn English. Local police should have the right and ability to question someone's citizenship when they are involved in a crime. It's time to take a stand against these invaders into our country!

You people sicken me! My sister was killed 5 days after her birthday by a man who had a suspended license because of dui, was swerving in and out of traffic, rear ended a car and drove into the other lane killing my sister and seriously injured my mother! You dare argue over senseless things on here? Have respect and do it else where! My mother remembers very clearly what happen, she could not do anything to get out of the way and was hit head on. Have respect for our family and our beautiful Kaitlyn E. Berry who was tragically taken from us!

Really that's what you people have to say? My best friend was just killed in a car crash and you guys are going to fight over if the driver was in the wrong place or if the killer is illegal or not? How about some respect for Kaitlyn's family and friends! This beautiful young woman was taken from all of us for no reason and she is going to be greatly missed! I hope Kaitlyn's mother recovers fast, and I'm sorry for the lost of your daughter.
