WINTER STORM WATCH in effect for Sunday afternoon until Monday afternoon for the area.  Multiple waves of low pressure ride along a stalled front bringing a prolonged period of wintry weather.  A period of sleet and rain is likely at the start of the storm Sunday before it transitions to a period of snow and sleet late Sunday.  Sleet is then expected to change to all snow in the early morning hours of Monday.  There is the potential for at least 6″ of snow across the area with pockets of higher amounts.  The best chance of heavy snow at this time is over far South-Central Pennsylvania, along and south of the PA Turnpike and I81 to the Mason-Dixon line.

IMPACTS:  Dangerous travel conditions due to snow covered roads and reduced visibility.  The Monday morning commute will be significantly impacted.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW, SLEET OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT THE TRAVEL.

WINTER STORM WATCH for Sunday and Monday

OVERVIEW:   High pressure moves to our east today.  This sets up a milder flow which will help boost our temps above freezing on Saturday.  A cold front approaches from the northwest Saturday night.  Then we’ll be watching a more significant storm system move in Sunday and last through Monday. Fair and continued cold weather will follow into the first full week of March.

TONIGHT:  Dry tonight with increasing high clouds late.  Lows will be cold and drop to the single digits once again. Winds should remain on the light side.

WINTER STORM WATCH for Sunday and Monday

FIRST DAY OF MARCH: Clouds will continue to thicken diminishing our sunshine late in the day.  Highs will be running well below average but should get above freezing to the middle 30s.  Winds will be light out of the southeast.  Cold front comes in Saturday night and sags south overnight becoming stationary over the area early Sunday morning.

WINTER STORM WATCH for Sunday and Monday

WATCHING ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT STORM:  Our next storm comes in Sunday and remains all day Monday into the evening.  Initially, it will start out as rain and sleet in the afternoon.  As temperatures fall, precipitation will transition to a period of sleet and snow.  There is a small chance for freezing rain as temps cool below freezing but upper level temps remain above.  By early Monday morning the precipitation is expected to become all snow and continue for much of Monday into the early evening.  There will be a lot of Gulf moisture with this next system and that means we will see significant snowfall.

WINTER STORM WATCH for Sunday and Monday

REMAINING COLD:  Weather will be quiet once the storm departs but temperatures will remain far below average for much of the week.

Happy Thursday evening!
