An 18 year old man and a 17 year old juvenile face charges in a home invasion in Lancaster County over the weekend. It happened at about 8:30 pm Sunday night at a home in the 4400 block of Chinchilla Avenue in West Hempfield Township.

Officers responded to the home for a 911 hang up phone call. When they arrived on the scene they were told everything was okay. The two residents, a 69 year old woman and a 21 year old male, were also uncooperative.  About 45 minutes later, police responded another call for a reported stabbing of two people. It was a quarter mile from the home on Chinchilla Avenue.

When police arrived on the scene of the second call they were told the two stabbing victims were outside playing with airsoft guns when they were attacked by an unknown person. Officers soon realized that the prior call was connected to the current call. After the victims were sent to the hospital, police returned the home on Chinchilla Avenue. This time they told police that two males had pushed their way into the home, forced the male into his bedroom, tied him up and struck him. The male victim was able to break free. He then grabbed a pocket knife and stabbed the two intruders. The intruders had their faces covered, were dressed in camouflage. After being stabbed one of the suspects removed his facial covering and the victim recognized him. The suspects then ran away.

Township police identified the adult male as 18 year old Luke Karpathios, of Columbia. Police also confirmed that the juvenile was the son of a West Hempfield Township Police officer.

The investigation is ongoing with charges pending approval of the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.
