A controversial new ruling from the Massachusetts high court on Wednesday has many people outraged– and calling for change.
The court ruled Wednesday that it is not illegal to take a picture up a woman’s skirt.
The practice is called “upskirting”… and the Massachusetts high court says it’s legal.
The court explains that taking a picture up a woman’s skirt doesn’t violate the law because the women aren’t nude or partially nude.
The ruling comes after the case of Michael Robertson, charged twice with taking upskirt photos of women on a subway.
Existing laws– called the Peeping Tom statutes– protect people from being photographed in bathrooms and dressing rooms… but says photos are only illegal if the person is nude or partially nude.
Many people are outraged, claiming the laws need to catch up with technology…
And several politicians are calling for a re-wording of the legislation to make upskirt photos illegal.
The court said it agrees that this type of behavior should be illegal,  but its hands are tied by the current law…
Leaving many women feeling vulnerable on public transportation… unless they’re wearing pants.
