An Elizabethtown man faces an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly hit a Lancaster man with punch causing brain injury.  It happened nearly two weeks ago on March 2 in Lancaster City.  Police say Eric Mays, 29, went to the victim’s home in the 500 block of Poplar Street at about 4:30 pm.

Mays asked to speak to the victim regarding a dispute. Before he began talking, Mays allegedly punched the victim in the left side of his face in the cheekbone area. The victim fell backwards from the blow and struck the back of his head on a brick faced wall.

The victim suffered swelling and redness to his left cheekbone as a result of the punch. He was later admitted to the hospital with a brain injury. He has been unconscious since March 3rd. It was initially thought that the victim was suffering an unrelated medical problem. Investigators learned later about the altercation.

Based upon the investigation an arrest warrant was issued for Mays yesterday. He was taken into custody at about 9 o’clock this morning at his home in Elizabethtown.  Following arraignment Mays was sent to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $75,000.00 bail.
