40 new digital parking meters went live Monday morning in Harrisburg’s business and capitol districts. The price to park at the new meters has now doubled from $1.50 an hour to $3 an hour. Meters will also run two hours longer from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. Street spots will no longer be numbered, drivers will now enter their license plate number at the digital meter to keep track of their time. Individuals will also be able to renew an expired meter at any digital meter in the city or via text message.
Herman Simmons, on-street facility manager says, “If you see our parking enforcement guys, the people that right the citations, they actually explain to everyone how to successfully use the pay by plate machine.”
Some areas in downtown Harrisburg still have the old meters, so if you park at one of those you can still follow the old rules and rates.
