Southern Regional Police are asking people in York County to be cautious about their mailboxes. This, after a series of thefts. They say someone stole from mailboxes and used information to open credit cards, use checks, and file federal income taxes under the victim’s social security numbers.
Mark Peyton’s wife had put four bills in their mailbox, when they left for work someone stole them and then tried to cash them.
“ It’s unbelievable especially in this area and in today’s age that someone would come by and almost have to be stalking to know what time the mail comes to take mail out of your mailbox, “ says Peyton
The bank picked up on the altered check. Southern Regional Police are asking people who live in the area to remove mail from their mailboxes.
