Lane-width restrictions will begin tomorrow as work to repair and rehabilitate seven structures on Route 22/322 in the Lewistown area continues. The work zone stretches from the Route 522 interchange to the Business 22 interchange, east of Lewistown. Lane restrictions are in place eastbound and westbound through this area and will have a width restriction of ten feet, starting tomorrow, March 20.
Work will span two construction seasons but once complete, PennDOT will be able to shorten its list of structurally deficient bridges in Mifflin County. Repairs will also provide area drivers with safer, smoother travel on bridges that will remain in service for years to come.
Through early April, crews will be performing preliminary work building crossovers in the area. Those crossovers are expected to be in use around April 3. PennDOT will issue an update on the project prior to the implementation of the crossovers.
The traffic crossover this year is expected to last until late August. After that, work will continue under daylight lane restrictions and signage through October. Overall work will include concrete and deck repairs, painting, drainage improvements, guide rail updates, roadway milling and paving, and miscellaneous items. A westbound permanent message board is also a part of the project. Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. of State College is the contractor for this $14.4 million job.
