A York City School District teacher was arrested on drug possession charges after police spotted him driving erratically near the school where he taught on March 5.
Bryan T. Gosnell, 33, of York, is charged with intentional possession of a controlled substance by a person who is not registered, possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Gosnell is a teacher at Goode Elementary School.
About 11:44 a.m. on March 5, police spotted Gosnell driving erratically along the 200 block of North Broad Street before running into the entrance of the Goode School. As the officer questioned Gosnell about his careless driving–investigators noticed scarring and visible injection sites on Gosnell’s arms in addition to his bloodshot eyes, according to court documents.
During the investigation, Gosnell admitted to using Heroin and Suboxone. According to court documents, Gosnell told investigators that he had been addicted to heroin for three years and he had been trying to wean himself off the drug by using sublingual Suboxone since the summer of 2013. Gosnell confessed to illegally purchasing the Suboxone without a prescription.
Gosnell also admitted to smoking marijuana and cocaine, in addition to injecting Suboxone during the school day in the classroom bathroom, according to court documents.
Investigators say Gosnell consented to having his classroom, truck and home searched. According to court documents, police found packaged marijuana and drug paraphernalia including; a water bong, a glass pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine, glass pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana, needles and 8 packets of Suboxone.
Gosnell was arrested and taken to York County Central Booking where he was processed and released.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 22.
It remains unclear if Gosnell is still employed with the school district. A message left for Superintendent Eric Holmes requesting comment has not yet been returned.
