Matthew Hanes Hero Soldier Returns to Central PA from Afghanistan

Local high school seniors hit the basketball court for the All-Star games in Manchester Twp., York County on Sunday.

It was held at Northeastern High School with YAIAA players from across York County.

The York White Rose Lions Club organizes the games each year. This year they decided to honor Northeastern 2010 graduate Army Cpl. Matthew Hanes. He was injured in Afghanistan, and is preparing to travel to China for medical treatments.

All the proceeds from today’s games will be given to him. They raised almost $10,000.

“We’re going to present him with the check at our May meeting, because he has to go to China in April for his stem cell surgery,” says Mike Mummert, chairman of the All-Star games. “So we want to give him the check when he gets back and that’ll help defray some of those costs.”
