PennDOT District 8 starts prep work April 8, weather permitting, on a project to repair and resurface a 4.58-mile section of Route 850 from the intersection with Route 17 in the Village of Kistler to the intersection with Liberty Valley Road in Northeast Madison Township, Perry County.
The $2,734,098 contract was awarded on Feb. 20 to Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc., of State College, Centre County, and includes tree trimming, inlet work, drainage pipe installation, roadway base repair, milling and resurfacing, guiderail installation, sign replacement, and new pavement markings.
PennDOT advises those who travel Route 850 that they may encounter single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting them through the work zone on weekdays during daylight hours as crews repair the road in preparation for resurfacing.
In June, construction crews will close a section of Route 850 just south of McMillen Road for up to 14 days in order to install drainage cross pipe. During the closure, a detour which follows Route 17 and Liberty Valley Road will be in place.
Motorists are advised to be alert for this operation, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zones, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the road crews.
Route 850, locally known as Fort Robinson Road, averages more than 400 vehicles traveled daily. Repairs to Route 850 are scheduled to be completed by the end of November.
