A York County nuclear power plant is scheduled to conduct an emergency preparedness drill Tuesday afternoon.

The exercise at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station will involve counties, municipalities and school districts within 10 miles of the facility in Delta.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA), state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and State Police will participate in the drill, as well as agencies from Maryland.

The exercise uses simulated emergency scenarios to test the ability of plant personnel and offsite emergency organizations to respond quickly and effectively to a real plant emergency.

Residents near Peach Bottom may see emergency vehicles staged in the area tomorrow or hear plant public address announcements but the offsite emergency sirens will not be used, according to a news release.

The exercise will begin in the afternoon and conclude in the evening.
