Homeowner catches thief in the act

A homeowner surprises a burglar inside his home Monday night.

Matthew Joseph Arnold, 28, of Stewartstown is being charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and theft from a motor vehicle

Police were called to the home on Church Street just before 2:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress. The resident told officers he woke up to footsteps coming up to his second floor and confronted a burglar. The suspect fled right after being confronted.

Officers searched the area and found Arnold lying in a field about a block away from the victim’s home. He had the victim’s prescription medication in possession, police said.

He was taken to Central booking for arraignment and released after posting $25,000 bail police said.

Other vehicles throughout the neighborhood had items stolen from them and further charges are pending. If you have any information pertaining to these crimes police ask that you contact them at 717-235-3944.
