PennDOT Secretary Barry Schoch joined by PSP Commissioner Frank Noonan, representatives from the Alliance of Bikers Aimed Toward Education (A.B.A.T.E.) and the Pa. Motorcycle Safety Program are joining Governor Tom Corbett in kicking-off Motorcycle Safety Awareness month. Pennsylvania now joins many states across the nation that use the month of may to educate motorists and bikers to exercise caution on the roads.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists are 35 times more likely to experience a deadly accident on the road than those in passenger cars. Officials are stressing how important training and safety are for motorcycle enthusiasts.
“Our message today is simple, enjoy the ride but get the training. Be safe and ride for life. Live free ride alive, “ said PennDot Transportation Secretary Barry Schoch.
This year marks 30 years since passage of the 19-84 legislation that established the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program.
