It was the first day of trout season all over again for children across the state on Saturday.
Youngsters at Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs, Cumberland County, took part in “Mentored Youth Fishing Day,” organized by the PA Fish and Boat Commission.
41 different waterways were stocked with trout on Friday. On Saturday, more than 2,000 children gathered at the lakes and streams all over Pennsylvania to cast, and hopefully, reel one in.
“It’s a way to get kids away from the TV and the VCR’s, actually not even VCR’s, CD’s and other good stuff and also to get here, enjoy the outdoors and experience fishing,” says Chris Kuba, President of the Yellow Breeches Anglers Club.
“Mentoring Fishing Day” was originally scheduled to be held in March and April, but was rescheduled because of unusually cold weather and unexpected ice cover on the waterways.
