A homeless man was arrested Saturday after he bought a pack of cigarettes and then robbed  a Carlisle convenience store, police said. Richard E. Conrad, 57, is charged with robbery, simple assault and theft by unlawful taking.

Carlisle police responded to report of a robbery at the Super 7 Mart on the 300 block of North Hanover Street. The employee told officers that Conrad, who is a frequent customer, came in and bought a pack of USA Gold cigarettes. Afterwards–Conrad told the cashier that he had a gun and wanted the money from the cash register. The employee opened the cash drawer and Conrad  grabbed a handful of $10 bills before fleeing.

Police eventually caught up with Conrad and he was taken to Cumberland County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
