York County mother Jennifer Kennedy is making sure her young son will never forget his father, a law enforcement officer who died in an accidental shooting. She was at a ceremony honoring 7 fallen officers at the York County Emergency Services Center on Friday.
Kennedy’s husband David Kennedy died on February 17th of this year at his home. “It’s so fresh, I mean I know it was three months ago, but it still feels like it was yesterday” said Kennedy. David worked with the Springettsbury and Lower Windsor police departments and was well known in the community. “Everyday we walk into a mall or my daughters school somebody remembers it and somebody says something and you get the looks and it will never go away” said Kennedy.
She said that’s okay because she wants to keep her husband’s memory alive, especially for their two year old son, who’s also named David. “He looks exactly like his father. Acts just like him” said Kennedy. She created a memory book for young David to show what kind of man his father was. “We have all kinds of stuff in it. His badge, and we talk about him every day. I mean as soon as my son saw his picture inside he said that’s daddy. He knows that and I want him to know” said Kennedy.
Young David would definitely be welcomed in the law enforcement community when he grows up, but after grabbing the FOX43 microphone and talking into it, he may want to consider going into television.
