The 61st Annual Sertoma Chicken Barbecue was held at Long’s Park in Lancaster on Saturday. It’s known as the world’s largest one-day chicken barbecue. Close to 500 volunteers cooked and served nearly 20 tons of chicken to thousands of people who drive through the park and often have to wait in line for their food. Customers come from all over the area to savor the meal. “When I’m pulling up and I know that smoke is going to be filling the air and the barbecue and the smell of chicken barbecue is going to be all over the park and probably all over the city within a few hours is really exciting and I think it really kicks off the summer season and the barbecue season in Lancaster County,” says Megan Sofilka, Chair of the Sertoma barbecue. About 100,000 chicken dinners were served. All proceeds from the barbecue help maintain and beautify Long’s Park.
