A grand jury has indicted nine people, eight from Cumberland County and one from Harrisburg for running an illegal sports betting operation over the past six months.

Charges were filed today against Steven Sheely, Sr., 59, Camp Hill, Staci Sheely, 52, Camp Hill, John McDonald, 27, New Cumberland, Steven Sheely, Jr., 39, Mechanicsburg, John McDonald, 37, New Cumberland, James Fox, 46, Harrisburg, Bret Hagar, 42, Carlisle, Brian Fertenbaugh, 43, Mechanicsburg, Ralph Domene, 47, Camp Hill and Roger Vaneslow II, 44, New Cumberland.

The indictment charges all nine with four counts each of running an illegal gambling operation, money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

If convicted they face up to 20 years’ imprisonment on each count and fines up to $500,000 on each count.

The case was investigated by the FBI, state police and the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission.
