The roar of motorcycles could be heard for miles around in Franklin County Sunday as motorcyclists rode to raise money for hospitalized veterans.

More than 2,000 bikers hopped on their hogs in Greencastle and rode all the way to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The annual Operation God Bless America Ride raises money for the facility’s recreation fund and items to make the veterans more comfortable including exercise bikes, televisions, as well as shaving gear.

Arnold Davis, ride organizer says, “This money goes to patient care, none of it goes to the hospital, it goes to comfort aid to the veterans.”

Theo Chambers, ride organizer says, “All of the support from veterans across the country has been fantastic, the latest thing we have been doing now is put in sidewalks and veterans go down to gardens for relaxation, it’s part of their health care.”

The ride has raised over $500,000 in its 24 year history.

This year’s ride brought in $35,000 for wounded veterans!
