A man fleeing from state police during a traffic stop late Sunday was captured after he jumped into a creek in Lancaster County, police said. The incident happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. at Route 30 and Hoover Road in Salisbury Township. According to police reports, 25-year-old Zachariah V. Smith took off at a high rate of speed when troopers attempted to pull him over.

Smith, of Philadelphia, crashed his vehicle at Route 30 and Route 10 in Chester County. He ran out of the vehicle and jumped into a nearby creek, authorities said.

He was apprehended and taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment.

State police say charges are pending against him.
