According to the Health Department, someone who likely had the measles went to Harrisburg International Airport. “All we know is that the passenger came in that morning and was on a six am flight to Atlanta.” Airport spokesman Scott Miller said.

The Health Department says the person likely infected was also at the Kohl’s on Jonestown Road and the Holy Name of Jesus Parish Church on Allentown Boulevard over the Memorial Day weekend. Doctor John Goldman is an infectious disease specialist at Pinnacle Health. He has seen just two measles cases in the last 20 years of practicing medicine. He said someone with measles can experience the following symptoms:

  1. High fever
  2. Conjunctivitis
  3. Red eyes
  4. Sore throat
  5. Dry cough

To prevent people from contracting the disease, Goldman recommends getting the measles vaccination. The Health Department advises people who may have been exposed to those areas affected over Memorial Day, or who show any measles symptoms, to contact the Health Department and their doctor immediately.
