Flags were flying across our area Saturday, to mark Flag Day. In York, the Elks Lodge held a celebration at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Spring Garden Band played patriotic music, as the Elks presented the history of our flag. They also honored each branch of the military in a ceremony.
The Elks began recognizing the holiday in 1911, and Pennsylvania became the first state to make Flag Day a legal holiday in 1937.
“I’m just very proud of the nation and I’m proud of my husband for being a part of this great nation and fighting for our country,” says Tiara France-Winder, whose husband participated in the ceremony. “Because a lot of people can’t do it, so my hat’s off to them.”
