The secret electric hog in your home

When it comes to electricity consumption in your home, you may be surprised at which appliances  use the most power.
A new report by the Los Angeles Times reveals a secret appliance in your home that is consuming a lot of energy, it’s your cable box.
According to the Times, cable boxes run at nearly full power even when they are in stand-by mode.
The 224-million cable boxes in use across the country use as much electricity as four nuclear reactors.
Cable boxes are now the second biggest electric hog in homes, after air conditioners.
The times reports the cable tv industry recently agreed to reduce the power consumption of newer models, in a move to save customers a billion dollars each year.
