York Habitat for Humanity, along with York College officials and community leaders, gathered to celebrate the one-year anniversary of home ownership for a local family.
Ashley Cruz became a first-time homeowner last June on West Jackson Street in York. The house for Cruz and her son was the 108th built by York Habitat.
“It’s wonderful,” says Cruz. “Me and my son, he really appreciates it. He’s happy that we have our own home, and he’s so excited. He loves it. It’s been a good feeling to be a homeowner.”
A commemorative plaque was unveiled as part of the ceremony. Those in attendance had a chance to tour the home. York College president Pamela Gunter-Smith presided over the event.
