Atlantic City, NY (WPIX) — Ready, set, sculpt! Twenty of the best sand artists from around the world are creating massive, intricate sculptures using fine grains of sand to compete in the second annual Do AC Sand Sculpting World Cup.

The event is free to the public and runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 19 to July 6 along Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City.

Even if wet, windy storms soak the coastal city, experts say the sculptures will stay in tact. That’s because the sand is specially selected from a quarry for its silt content. Then it’s mixed with water and compacted into tight sculptures.
