2 charged with burglary at JP McCaskey High School

 

 

A juvenile and a 18-year-old man are facing charges after police say the pair broke into a Lancaster County high school and stole 23 laptop computers on June 5.

Investigators said Anibal Diaz, 18, of Lancaster admitted to stealing a car and breaking into JP McCaskey High School earlier this month with a juvenile accomplice.  The pair forced their way into the music lab around 3 a.m. and stole 23 MacBook laptop computers, according to police reports.  The two were caught on surveillance cameras roaming the halls before fleeing with the loot.

Police received a break in the case when a resident of West Lampeter Township reported that her car had been stolen during the early morning hours on June 5. Later that morning–a relative spotted the woman’s car in a parking lot near the intersection of High and Laurel Streets in Lancaster City. After consulting with West Lampeter Township Police, the woman was able to recover her vehicle.

However, when the victim arrived home–she discovered several MacBook computers in the back of her vehicle. Two skateboards, belonging to the suspects, were also found in her vehicle. The woman contacted police and that’s when investigators connected the stolen car with the break-in at the high school.

Officers interviewed Diaz and he admitted to stealing the vehicle and breaking into the high school. He handed over the remaining 14 laptop computers. The juvenile accomplice also admitted to his role in the burglary.

Diaz is charged with burglary and two counts of theft by unlawful taking. Diaz was  The unidentified juvenile is charged with burglary, receiving stolen property and theft by unlawful taking.

Diaz’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 3.
