Exploding airbags have forced seven automakers to recall millions of vehicles.
The malfunction causes airbags to shoot plastic shrapnel at drivers and passengers.
Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Chrysler, Ford, and BMW are recalling vehicles equipped with airbags made by Japanese company Takata. The announcements come after a National Highway Transportation Safety Administration investigation.
