childhood obesity report

In Harrisburg, State Representative Seth Grove and the Joint State Government Commission unveiled the findings in a new report that calls for tougher fight against childhood obesity in our state.

The Childhood Obesity Report made several suggestions for schools to include year-long physical education classes, health programs that will not only benefit students but employees, and at least 30 minutes of vigorous or moderate activities.

“The children are our future, and as adults, we need to create bright and healthy futures for them. My sincere hope is that Pennsylvania will value the importance of aggressively attacking the obesity issue by using the recommendations contained in this report, ” Advisory Committee Member & Physical Education teacher, Jeff Jacobs said.

The report follows a year-long investigation– including hearings on the issue and insight from public and private obesity experts as well as groups such as the YMCA.

The report also suggests the creation of a childhood obesity prevention advisory committee.
