A skateboarder was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after police found him skating and cutting himself in downtown Ephrata.

Early Wednesday morning just before 1:30 a.m. police spotted Brian Hummel near State and Main Street riding his skateboard down the middle of the roadway.

Police stopped Hummel and told him not to skate or he would be cited for ordinance violation. Hummel left the area but continued to skate into the first block of East Main Street. As he was skating, police say he pulled out a large knife and began cutting himself.

Police pulled up along the curb to stop Hummel, before Hummel charged at one of the officers attempting to stab him through the car window. Officers were able to pull away without being stabbed.

Hummel was taken into custody after being ordered to the ground by multiple officers. He was taken to local hospital for treatment.

Hummel is now charged with aggravated assault and is currently awaiting arraignment.
