Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse says it’s the clearest sign yet of the city’s commitment to continue improving safety.
Nine new police officers were sworn-in on Thursday afternoon during a ceremony at the MLK Government Center in Harrisburg.
Officials say the newest additions will strengthen their department.

“I am so proud of the young officers right here because they had the courage to come forth and say I want this job, I want to be a police officer, I love this city. Let me show you how much I love this city by serving the people of this city and it takes someone special,” Harrisburg Police Chief Thomas Carter said during the ceremony.

The Harrisburg Fire Department also held a swearing-in ceremony– adding 13 new firefighters.  Those firefighters were honored at H.A.C.C. this afternoon.
