Updated: Teenager identified in police involved shooting in Lancaster

Lancaster city police have identified and filed charges against a teenager that was  involved in an officer involved shooting and pursuit that happened Friday evening.

Police say Richard Rivera, 18,  of Lancaster is charged with aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, firearms to be carried without a license, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

According to police they were attempting a traffic stop in the area of the 500 block of Fairview Avenue around 8p.m. when they say the driver of the vehicle continued without stopping. At one point the passenger, Rivera,  got out of the vehicle near Prospect Street and allegedly pointed a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver at police. Police fired shots hitting Rivera.

The driver of the vehicle did get away. The vehicle is being described as a black 2011 Hyundai Sonata, bearing a PA registration JNY-6343.  Officials say the gun Rivera had  was reported stolen to the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police in October of 2013. Rivera also had 12 grams of crack cocaine on him.

Rivera remains hospitalized with non life threatening injuries and will be arraigned  at a later date. An officer responding to the incident crashed into a pole at the intersection of Manor and Prospect Streets.
