The Can-Am Police-Fire Games are officially underway with hundreds of competitors going head-to-head in dozens of Olympic-style events.
While most of the men and women say their favorite part of the games is the friendly competition, York County Sheriff’s Deputy Ken Leveck says to him, it means so much more.
“My daughter was diagnosed with a medical condition that is going to affect her, her whole life.”
Nine-year-old Malia is part of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Leveck says when he found out all the proceeds from this year’s Can-Am Games were going to the foundation, he knew he had to be a part of it.
Leveck will compete in several events; from golf tournaments to horseshoes; all to show Malia anything is possible if you set a goal.
“I want to show them how to just go out and be normal and live a normal life,” he said. “Have fun and face the challenges you may face in whatever life may throw at you.”
Leveck was off to a good start, taking home the gold in the chili cook-off.
“I was crossing my fingers and we actually won the chili cook-off,” Malia said.
No matter what the rest of the week holds, Malia says she’s very proud of her dad.
