Several People Taken Into Custody At York County DUI Checkpoint

The Pennsylvania State Police will be participating in the National Labor Day crackdown on drunk driving which runs from August 13th until September 1st. During that period, PSP will be conducting multiple DUI checkpoints on Friday, August 22nd and Saturday August 23rd. The locations chosen are within Dauphin County at areas that statistically have a high volume of DUI activity and DUI crashes.

State Police advise motorists not to drink and drive and to use designated drivers. Statistics show that drunk driving kills more than 10,000 people every year nationally. On average in 2012, one person was killed every 51 minutes in an alcohol-impaired driving crash.

PennDot data shows alcohol-related crashes are trending downward during the past decade however drug-related crashes are increasing each year. In 2012, there were 11,956 alcohol-related crashes in PA, and in the same year, there were 3,306 drug related crashes statewide.

Motor vehicle crashes and fatalities involving DUI and DUI-drugs are entirely preventable. Please choose not to drive impaired.
