Child drowns in swimming pool in Swatara Township

A 1 year old girl is dead after she was found floating in a swimming pool this morning. Police were called to the 6800 block of Chambers Hill Road in Swatara Township around 8:30 this morning for a report of a missing 1 and 1/2 year old girl. Swatara Township Police immediately began to search the area along with police from neighboring jurisdictions and fire department personnel. Summit Search and Rescue also responded to the scene.
At approximately, 9:04 am, neighbors in the 500 Block of Margate Road called 911 to report they had found a young child floating in their swimming pool to the rear of their house. Police who were searching the immediate area arrived almost immediately to find the neighbors performing emergency first aid. Police Officers and Fire Personnel from Chambers Hill Fire Department took over the emergency first aid until they were relieved by responding EMS personnel from Life Team. The child was transported by Life Team to the Hershey Medical Center for advanced medical care but unfortunately did not survive.
The child's name is being withheld pending notification of all family members.
At this time, the Swatara Township Police Department in conjunction with the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office and the Dauphin County Coroners Office is conducting a death investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's death and it remains an open investigation.
