These UTA Karate School students were kicking for a cause-- taking part in a "Break-A-Thon" in West Manchester Township, York County.

On Saturday they broke 1,000 boards within one hour.

It's part of a fundraiser for York Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)-- the part of the hospital that specializes in caring for premature or sick infants.

The event has a special meaning for organizers.

"We've had a couple students here who were newborns  and went to the NICU. My grandsons, personally were in there for 3 months-- a pound each-- and they were only like 11 inches long and they were actually able to make it and survive, so we're here trying to give back to them," event volunteer Lorie Luckenbaugh said.

So far this event has raised $2,000 with the help of local companies raffling things from tattoos to gift baskets.
