A relaxing day on Lake Mae — that’s what it was supposed to be for one boater. Instead, a family is now coming to grips with the loss of their loved one. The man, who has yet to be identified, borrowed a canoe from his friend and decided to go fishing alone on Lake Mae in Adams County, Sunday evening. His friend says he received a text about 8:30 last night. In that text, was a picture of a fish he caught. That’s the last time anyone heard from him.

But Neil Boggs lives right across the street and says he noticed a gray Ford pickup parked by Lake Mae last night. And that he usually goes for a nightly walk around the lake — but last night decided not to.

“Well I got up at 6:30 this morning and I looked over at the lake as I always do and I noticed the truck there. I didn’t see anybody fishing which I thought okay they probably walked up the lake. So about 7:30 I had to go and get gas and I came back and I noticed the truck there and once again I looked and I thought that’s strange that I can’t see the fisherman,” said Boggs, a 12-year resident of Carroll Valley. But another witness saw the boater. They spotted his body floating in the water just after 10:30 this morning. Crews removed the body early this afternoon. And family and friends were seen speaking to investigators, confirming that the Ford pickup truck was indeed his. Police wouldn’t comment on whether the boater was wearing a life jacket or if the canoe capsized.
