LOWER PAXTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WPMT)- A 35-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after police said he brutally beat his 4-month-old child last month.

Authorities charged Michael Gallagher, of Lower Paxton Township, with  aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

Police were contacted after Gallagher’s child was being treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for serious non-accidental injuries.

Investigators learned the abuse occurred between Aug. 11 and Aug. 29 at Gallagher’s home along the 4900 block of Eastman Drive.

The baby was shaken, struck in the head and thrown onto hard surfaces, police said.

Gallagher was taken to Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10.
