In Lancaster County, a riding club used their horses to help police officers.

The Columbia Riding Club held its 8th Annual Benefit Horse Show. The free event helps the Lancaster City Mounted Patrol, as well as the canine unit.

Horses help officers with things like crowd control and sometimes to chase suspects.

"Our goal is to provide a nice venue where people can come and see the police horses, talk to the officers, see a canine in action which most people unfortunately never do, and enjoy these beautiful grounds and come and enjoy as a participant or as a spectator the horse show," Riding Club member Mary Glazier said.

Organizers say caring for the animals can be expensive.

All of the proceeds raised from advertisements and event sponsors will go to the Lancaster City Police Foundation, which will help with animal care, canine training, as well as transportation for horses.
