A special ceremony was held in Hampden Township Thursday to remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

The Patriot Day Commemoration Ceremony was hosted by the Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg.

Members of the community joined local firefighters and military personnel to celebrate the heroes of 9/11 as well as honor the thousands who were killed.

There were also several guest speakers, including Lieutenant Governor, Jim Cawley.

Cawley urged Americans to never forget this day in history.

"There were so many people who did so many heroic things,” Cawley said. “I think it's incumbent on all of us, as Americans, to stop on this day and to remember."

The ceremony ended with a bagpipe performance of 'Amazing Grace' as well as the placement of a wreath on their 9/11 memorial.
