York Mayor Kim Bracey joined property owners as well as York College students and staff for ribbon cutting ceremony in York on Wednesday.

They were celebrating improvements made to a section of West Jackson Street between South George Street and Tyler Run Creek-- which is near York College.

It's part of the West Jackson Streetscape Project. The project included additions like new sidewalks, lighting, and street trees.

Bracey says cleaner and greener streets have a big impact on the college and the city community.

"One constant exists for our city to succeed, for our college to succeed,  we must continue to attract new people to live, work,  invest, and recreate, and this is part of that," Bracey said.

Columbia Gas, The York Water Company, and the York Rotary Club of York’s Preserve Planet Earth Committee partnered up with the City of York and York College for the million dollar project-- which did not use public money.

More than 200 properties were updated.
