People in Columbia, Lancaster County say they're sleeping with one eye open after a string of burglaries.

The burglar goes into homes while people are asleep and takes cash, jewelry, even cell phones. Police are investigating a dozen burglaries in Columbia and West Hempfield Township and they believe they're all connected.

Police say they don't know if the burglar is acting alone or not. The burglar gets in through open doors and windows; in some cases, a screen has been cut.

"I'm kind of concerned, kind of scared to sleep at night," says Kiersten Lingafeld of Columbia.

On the 1200 block of Hereford Drive Wednesday night, the burglar drove a car right out of the driveway. The owners were sleeping.

Neighbors say they want more streetlights in the area. The block only has one and nearby streets don't have any.

"Now with this happening, I would like to see more streetlights," says Kathy Leque of Columbia. "You know, it would help you feel safer."
