A home in the 1200 Block of Hereford Drive in Columbia was burglarized around midnight last night. Police say the burglar got into the home through an unlocked door, the latest such burglary in a series of crimes in which suspects gain entry to homes through unlocked ground level doors and windows. A majority of the burglaries have occurred while the residents were at home.

In last night’s burglary, a purse, wallets, and car keys were taken from the house, and the victim’s black 2006 Toyota Camry was stolen from the driveway of the home. The stolen vehicle’s Pennsylvania registration plate is JNW-8933. The residents were at home and sleeping at the time of the burglary.

Columbia Police strongly urge residents to close and lock all windows, doors, and other points of entry to their homes during the night and also when the home is unoccupied. Police also ask residents to immediately report any suspicious activity as it is occurring, including suspicious vehicles and persons.

Police are processing evidence and are working towards identifying the suspect(s). Anyone with information concerning the investigation into the burglaries is asked to contact Columbia Police Detective Matt Leddy at 717-684-7735 extension 7210.
