Heroin has killed 31 people this year in York County. That’s almost double the number of deaths from 2013. A group of York leaders have come together to take a stand to save lives. York County Coroner Pam Gay says, “we just feel we can’t wait much longer” and have teamed-up with other local experts to formed The York County Heroin Task Force. The Task Force is holding a town hall meeting at the York County School of Technology this Tuesday at 7pm and everyone is invited to attend. Scheduled to give valuable information on what you can do to save anyone who you may suspect is using heroin are Coroner Pam Gay, Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley, State Senator Scott Wagner, District Attorney Tom Kearney, Chief Deputy Prosecutor David Sunday, and Springettsbury Township Police Chief Tom Hyers.
The town hall meeting will cover the latest information on the Good Samaritan Law which would protect anyone who calls for help when they see someone overdosing on heroin. Special guest speaker Charlene Sciaretta of New Freedom will talk about how heroin took her son’s life because nobody took him to the hospital for fear of being arrested.
