Residents and business owners are being asked to attend town hall meeting about police coverage in Red Lion.
For years York Area Regional Police have patrolled the borough but because of failed contract negotiations, Pennsylvania State Police will soon take over.
The York Area Regional Police Commission and Red Lion Borough Council have been trying to reach an agreement for more than a year but have been unsuccessful. A few weeks ago the Commissions withdrew its contract to cover the borough.
A big concern is wait times and the extra workload on State Police. "Stretching State Troopers that thin, I just think it's a recipe for a bad situation," said Scott Deisley, Red Lion Superintendent during an interview a few weeks ago.
Meeting
Red Lion Mayor Steven Kopp said in an earlier interview that he hopes a meeting will help clear up any rumors and maybe even encourage a contract agreement.
"Lets go and lets present all the issues on all sides and let the public sit there and learn and let them ask questions," said Kopp.
The town hall meeting to discuss Red Lion Police protection will be hosted by Red Lion Borough Council on September 29th at 7:00 PM at the Red Lion Senior High School auditorium, 200 Horace Mann Ave. Red Lion, PA. All borough citizens and businesses are encouraged to attend.
