SWATARA TOWNSHIP (WPMT)-Authorities say a teenager who went missing from Swatara Township over the weekend has been found and a Harrisburg man was arrested in connection with her disappearance.

According to police, a 12-year-old girl ran away from her home Saturday night after leaving a note saying she would be home in “a couple of days.” The girl then took a cab to the 400 block of East Market Street in York. The  ab driver told police she was with a woman who was in her late 30s.

Over the weekend police identified 32-year-old Edwin Antonio Vargas Jr.  as a person of interest in the case. Authorities said Vargas knew the girl through a family relationship. The pair were spotted together Sunday morning along Columbia Avenue in York.

Police issued a release early Monday stating the girl has been found and placed in protective custody.

Vargas was arrested on outstanding warrants and on charges related to the girls disappearance.

No other information was immediately available.

Officers from the York City Police Department, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals assisted Swatara Township Police in the investigation.
