Classes have been cancelled this week (Oct. 20-24) for students at Doe Run Elementary School in the Manheim Central School District in Lancaster County.
The building is closed due to structural problems. More specifically, significant cracks in the masonry of the building were found and it was determined that the school would not be safe in a severe weather event or seismic event.
The information was given to the district superintendent on Friday, who as a precaution, chose to evacuate the building and send students home early.
At this point, classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, October 27th at the former Manheim Central Middle School located at Gramby and Hazel Streets.
District officials say details regarding transportation and other logistics will be shared throughout the week as plans are finalized. For more information, log onto the district's website here: http://mcsd-dnn.mcbarons.manheimcentral.org/mcsd/
