Police at Millersville University say a sexual assault that was reported by a female student early Sunday morning was falsely reported.

The 21-year-old said she was walking on campus near the library, late Saturday evening, after hanging out with friends. She said two men approached her, made comments and then physically and sexually assaulted her.

Millersville University Police say after a 14-hour investigation and review of security cameras on campus, they are certain the rape did not occur.

"I do believe that she is working through some things both psychologically and emotionally which may have caused her to make the report last night. So our focus is to work towards support and care for her and within her family," said Chief Pete Anders with Millersville University Police, at a news conference early Sunday afternoon.

An email and text alert was sent to Millersville students Sunday evening, advising them of the false report, via text and email through the university's alert system.
